Knockoff

I must admit, this outfit is a little bit of a knockoff of one of my previous outfits.  As a blogger, I feel like I can't wear an outfit more than once, but sometimes I just love the idea of an outfit so much that I want to wear it again without actually wearing it again.  Did that make sense at all?  I hope it did.  So, I change up the plaid flannel, do jeans instead of chinos, lose the belt (some days I just want my waistline unrestricted, you know), and switch from knee-highs to booties, and that's enough change that I can deem this outfit "different."  And, I still get to wear the world's most comfortable cardigan over a super soft flannel shirt.  I have no guilt for this knockoff, none whatsoever.

Chasing the Sun

Well, daylight savings time has gotten the best of us.  We made the mistake of waiting until after class to shoot this outfit, and we ended up chasing the sun up to the only lit area left on camps, the top of the tallest parking deck.  So, please pardon the extreme backlighting I've got going on today.  

You can't tell in these pictures, but these are liquid leggings.  Liquid leggings had a moment a few years back, and I remember greatly disliking them, but when they started to come around again as more of a "leather-look" kind of deal, they started to grow on me.  I'd been keeping my eyes peeled for a pair when I happened to stumble upon some while shopping in Krakow, Poland during my trip this summer.  My friend and shopping partner that day was 100% against me buying them, insisting that there was no way to wear them well.  I bought them anyway.  I made sure to point out to her that I was finally wearing them, and she told me that I had proved her wrong.  Liquid legging success.

Busy Busy

Boy, have I been busy.  I apologize for all the vanishing I've been doing lately.  I'm trying to get back on a regular posting schedule, cause I miss blogging!  

As I'm sure you know, today is election day, so get out and vote!  I voted early, and it was so exciting because this is the first presidential election that I've been able to vote in.  I don't think I've ever felt more patriotic than when I turned in that ballot.  Close patriotic runner up: wearing my flag sweater.

Unplanned Sabbatical

Well, as you may or may not have noticed, I took a little bit of an unannounced, unplanned sabbatical from blogging.  Unfortunately, the launch of my shop happened to come just before the start of a very stressful few weeks of school, so I cleared my plate for a little while to focus on my school work.  However, I didn't take a break from getting dressed or shooting outfits, so I have plenty to share now that I'm back.  Also, we did another merchandise shoot for the store yesterday, so new items will be listed soon!  And of course, you, my lovely readers, will be the first to know. 

Blooming Beauty

I chose to wear this for this month's Everybody Everywear back to school theme because it kind of reminds me of something one of my young, sweet elementary school teachers would have worn, but still feels modern and fresh.

Floral Shorts as Sweet as May

From the second I laid eyes on these shorts, it was love.  I don't think I've ever seen a prettier floral in my life.  Plus, they are wonderfully comfortable.  Close second on my love list is this statement necklace which I snagged for 5 bucks.  I hardly ever find jewelry while thrifting, so this was a particularly exciting find.  But don't worry, floral shorts, you're still my number 1.

Heat and Hibiscus

As much as I am dying for fall to roll around, I'm trying my best to make the most out of my summer clothes while I still can (ie, when it's still crazy hot).  I wear most of my clothes year-round (thank you, layering!), but certain pieces, like this tropical print dress, have to be retired for the colder months.  Wearing hibiscus flowers in the fall just wouldn't feel right.

First Day

So the first week of school just flew by in a whirlwind of stress and chaos.  I can't believe I'm just now getting time to post what I wore on the first day.  

This awesome vintage dress is new (to me), and I couldn't wait to wear it, so what better time then on the first day of classes?  I especially had to get at least one good wear out of it before it gets too much into fall to wear seersucker.  My favorite part of the dress is the tiny anchor embroidered on the pocket; I'm a sucker for those special little details.

Oh, also, I don't know if anyone noticed, but I got my hair cut.  It's been over 2 weeks, and I'm still not really used to it or 100% sure that I like it, but I am starting to work out some different ways to style it that I like.  Hopefully it will grow on me some more.

Nautical-ish

Well, it's Everybody, Everywear time again, and this month's theme is nautical.  It took trying to put together a nautical look to make me realize just how desperately my wardrobe is lacking in the essential navy blue and white Breton striped tee.  A few months ago, I got so frustrated with not being able to thrift one that I decided I would pay retail for the perfect specimen.  Unfortunately, I haven't found just the one I'm looking for anywhere.  I might just have to attempt to DIY one because I'm tired of waiting!

We thought the lake at our local park would be a good place for a nautical themed shoot, and while we were there, I got up close and personal with a family of geese who were having a little preening time.  I just couldn't resist getting some pictures of the goslings, despite the fact that Canadian geese aren't usually the friendliest.  I know, I'm such a risk taker.  Totally worth it, though; look at these cuties!

The Next Best Thing

I wore this the other week when we were having a little bit of a cooler spell, but it feels weird now to be posting pictures of me in a sweater when we're looking at weather in the high 80's this week.  The thought of wearing this right now is making me sweat. 

I don't know specifically why, but for some reason, I really wanted to be cozy that day.  It was one of those times that I was wishing it was socially acceptable to walk around swaddled in a blanket all day.  I figured that my super oversized sweater was the next best option, and slightly more presentable than wearing bedding.  Shapeless?  Yes.  Exceptionally comfy?  You bet.
