Knockoff

Sweater, shirt: thrifted. Jeans: Target. Boots: vintage.

I must admit, this outfit is a little bit of a knockoff of one of my previous outfits.  As a blogger, I feel like I can't wear an outfit more than once, but sometimes I just love the idea of an outfit so much that I want to wear it again without actually wearing it again.  Did that make sense at all?  I hope it did.  So, I change up the plaid flannel, do jeans instead of chinos, lose the belt (some days I just want my waistline unrestricted, you know), and switch from knee-highs to booties, and that's enough change that I can deem this outfit "different."  And, I still get to wear the world's most comfortable cardigan over a super soft flannel shirt.  I have no guilt for this knockoff, none whatsoever.

Revisiting the Skants

Shirt: Walmart. Pants: thrifted. Shoes: Report via Ross. Watch: Target. Belt: vintage.

I'm all about getting as many wears as possible out of my clothes, so I'm always happy when I discover that I can wear a piece in a different or unexpected way.  These pants are actually the "skants" that I was challenged to wear way back in March.  I hadn't worn them again mainly because I felt like they were difficult to style and stood out just a little too much to be worn any 'ole day.  However, I felt bad that they were just sitting in my closet not getting any use, so I pulled them out for a second look.

After a few minutes of trying again to style them as is, I realized that I could tweak them a little: I flipped the chiffon panels into the pant legs.  This left me with a great pair of simple, wide legged black trousers.  I'm so excited that I've found a second way to wear these so they don't have to sit in my closet waiting for a day when I'm feeling extra quirky.  Two pants in one is definitely a win-win.

Chasing the Sun

Sweater: vintage. Leggings: Reserved. Boots: thrifted. Necklace: Target. Watch: my grandpa's.

Well, daylight savings time has gotten the best of us.  We made the mistake of waiting until after class to shoot this outfit, and we ended up chasing the sun up to the only lit area left on camps, the top of the tallest parking deck.  So, please pardon the extreme backlighting I've got going on today.

You can't tell in these pictures, but these are liquid leggings.  Liquid leggings had a moment a few years back, and I remember greatly disliking them, but when they started to come around again as more of a "leather-look" kind of deal, they started to grow on me.  I'd been keeping my eyes peeled for a pair when I happened to stumble upon some while shopping in Krakow, Poland during my trip this summer.  My friend and shopping partner that day was 100% against me buying them, insisting that there was no way to wear them well.  I bought them anyway.  I made sure to point out to her that I was finally wearing them, and she told me that I had proved her wrong.  Liquid legging success.

Busy Busy

Jacket: Forever 21 via Plato's Closet. Shirt: Walmart. Skirt: vintage. Shoes: Report via Ross. Belt: thrifted.

Boy, have I been busy.  I apologize for all the vanishing I've been doing lately.  I'm trying to get back on a regular posting schedule, cause I miss blogging!

As I'm sure you know, today is election day, so get out and vote!  I voted early, and it was so exciting because this is the first presidential election that I've been able to vote in.  I don't think I've ever felt more patriotic than when I turned in that ballot.  Close patriotic runner up: wearing my flag sweater.

Reader Request - SunDrop Girl DIY How-to

Hey everyone!  I've got a little bit of a different post today.  As Halloween approaches, the views of my SunDrop girl costume post have been through the roof, and I've gotten a number or inquiries asking me to go into a little more detail about how I made my costume, specifically the shirt.

DIYing this shirt was insanely simple and I was so happy with how it turned out.  Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures while I was actually making the shirt, but I'll at least detail out the process step-by-step so you can hopefully get the idea.

1. Start with a run to your local craft or fabric store.  You're going to need a plain green tee shirt and transfer paper.  What is transfer paper?  It's basically paper that allows you to print out a design from your computer and iron it on to your shirt.  I used Purple Chimp brand transfer sheets, specifically a variety called "Marker and Crayon" (you can draw on them yourself or print from your computer).  These worked wonderfully for me, but there are lots of brands available if you can't find Purple Chimp.  Just be absolutely sure that you can print onto the transfer sheets from your ink jet printer.

2.  Now you would need to find a high-quality image of the SunDrop logo, but I've done the hard work for you: clicky-click here!  Save that image to your computer.

3.  Get a feel for how big you want the logo to be and where you want it on your shirt.  Print out a test print on a sheet of plain printer paper and test it on your shirt.  Adjust the size as needed.

4.  When you're happy with the logo, follow the directions that come with the transfer paper for loading the paper and printing.  Now print that sucker out!

5.  Any brand of transfer paper you get is going to come with detailed instructions.  Make sure you read and follow those instructions carefully.  This will involve cutting out the picture and ironing it on to the shirt.  In the case of my logo, I cut away all of the white space around the logo and also cut out the little flying droplets separately.  When it came time to iron, I just placed those droplets along with the rest of the design and ironed them all on together.

6.  If you followed the instructions properly, you should end up with a perfectly transferred design.  Yay!  I went one step further with my shirt and added the dark green around the neck.  I did this with a green fabric pen, also from the craft store.  I was going to do the sleeves as well, but it took a long time to do the neck and I ran out of patience.

7.  Finish off your costume with leggings, denim shorts, leg warmers, and a red headband.

8.  Go out there and rock that costume, and don't forget to show everyone how you drop it!

I hope all of this was clear.  It really is just a matter of buying a pack of transfer papers and following the directions.  Super easy.  Have questions?  Did try out this DIY?  Do you love your SunDrop costume?  Leave me a comment!  Good luck and enjoy!

Transitional

Shirt: Old Navy via thrift. Skirt, necklace: vintage. Shoes: thrifted. Sunglasses: Michael's Crafts. Watch: my grandpa's.

I've found that the transition time between summer and fall is very conflicting for me.  I want to jump wholeheartedly into fall fashions, and yet I'm not quite ready to give up a few of my favorite summer pieces.  This skirt is one said piece, but I felt like it could be fall appropriate paired with a flannel button down and my new favorite oxfords.

Also, you can't tell, but I steamed that skirt before wearing it.  It was perfectly smooth.  Then I sat in class all day.  But, you know what, that's ok, because I don't live in a magazine ad.  This is real life here, people.  Wrinkles and all.

Goodbye to Summer

Shirt: Old Navy via thrift. Shorts: American Eagle via thrift. Necklace, Sunglasses: thrifted. Shoes, watch: Target.

I've been hoarding these pictures from the end of September and now, looking back, I think it's safe to say that this outfit was my last hurrah of summer.  Honestly, I can't say that I'm disappointed.  I'm really not great at getting dressed in the summer.  I'm all about sweaters and blazers and layers and boots, which would all be absolute torture during even the mildest of the southern summer.  But now, I'm packing away my trusty denim shorts for cozy tights and long pants.

I came across this amazing location while on a field trip with my architecture studio class.  I thought the bright graffiti was a fun background for my already bright outfit.  Over the top? Yes, but I love it.  It's definitely just a one time location, though; wouldn't want to cause my readers any headaches.
